Old student loans

I just found out that I have some old student loans that haven't been paid. Seems they are with a collections agency.

Any recommendations on reducing or eliminating these old defaults.

You are not going to get rid of them without paying if that is what you are asking. You might be able to settle them but you would have to have a lump sum equal to about 80% of the balance.

Are these federal or private loans?
