recently i have lost my job. so i needed some quick cash so i wrote a check to myself knowing i had insuffient funds. I had plans on replacing the money but the bank closed the account about 2-3 day. Should I be worried.

Its called Kiteing and it is illegal. However as long as you cover the check and don't continue to do it, it shouldn't be noticed. But they do look for things just like this all the time. But it usually only comes to light when the checks start bounceing, sometimes they will start putting holds on your account if they suspect it.

Yea I read about kiteing online and to my knowledge it's illegal when done as an act of greedy-ness. If a person is undergo-ing finanical difficulty its excused. I regret it but desprate times can call for desprate acts.

Im the author of this thread..............

However, they closed the bank account approximately 2-3 day after the act. Due to my bad luck I was curious if this is one of those things that can have the feds knocking on your door 1-3 years later.

illegal only out of greedy-ness?, how about robbing a store because you are in financial difficulity? the reason does not make it any less illegal, that being said i can understand why you did it, investigate it but i think it really has to do more with the amount, if they will pursue this or not and dont do it again to increase your changes of the fed knocking on the door good luck
