Choosing the right consolidation company

I'm considering debt consolidation as a possible route to escape my debt burden but not sure how to pick the right consolidation firm. I have heard that they can rip you off while doing nothing about your debt. Is it true? How did you pick the consolidation company for yourself?

you should check the company name with BBB. see whether they are members of necessary affiliated groups.. find out from friends about their experience with particular company. you can also see if you can do it yourself. If you provide more information maybe members will be able to help you more.
