depends which one you choose, it varies alot.
i think a fair cost is 10% of whatever the original balance was not off the inflated balance.
if its a 10k debt i would try to settle it for 1k and probably end up settling at 2k (depending on which creditor it is) plus the 10% getting you out of debt at 3k total.
seem fair ?

Your cost would depend upon the amount you owe. Apart from that there are associated costs like,

* If you decide to hire a debt settlement company, they would charge some fees to do the job for you.

* You would become responsible for income tax for any forgiven amount of debt over $600.
