By now, we all know that the vikings in capital one commercials were actually collection agents working on capital one's behalf, but pretending to be other banks for purposes of the commercials :>) Okay, on a more serious note, I finally got my capital one current, but trust me capital one had nothing to do with that--it was all me. In fact it seems capital one tried their best to prevent me from getting it current. To this day they refuse to negotiate a better interest rate and still think they have the right to membership fee on a restricted account. And if they offered to knock off the late fees and over limit fees and give a reduced interest repayment plan, who wouldn't take that? I mean I don't want to get out from what I borrowed, I just want to pay it back and be done with it, but it seems cap one is still doing their best to keep me on that treadmill. It's a common them with them based on my readings here and elsewhere.

Now here's insult to injury: the amount of federal bailout money they took is $3,555,199,000. In case you were wondering that's roughly every tax payer in America paying capital one a late fee. It's verifiable too: http://money.cnn.com/news/specials/storysupplement/bankbailout/

Consider this: everyone was upset when the bank execs got their bonuses, but no-one is talking about how the banks are actually keeping the American economy in the toilet by using extortionist fees and interest rates to keep the American consumers who actually buy things on their knees.

So, has anyone who's had trouble with capital one specifically--I mention them as they are one of the worst large banks to deal with--ever thought of contacting your Senator? It's a serious question. Your tax money went to them, so you certainly have that right. I contacted mine today and talked about capital one specifically. His office seemed extremely receptive to hearing the horror story.

Who else here would be will to take that action? If enough people do it, targeting one bank in specific it might turn up the heat on that bank and set an example...

I think Advanta needs to be added to that list...we all need to be calling our Senators and tellling them the horror stories of interest rates being jacked up on decent consumers who were never late, never over the limit and have been customers for 20 plus years. Where is our bail out? The problem is our Senators the majority of them I feel are idiots too! But still worth a call...
