I’m 200 days late with Chase, every time I talk to them they say I don’t qualify for a settlement.
They say charge off is 7 months, April 30th is the charge off date.
Debt is 17,000, I tell them all I get is social security of about 600 a month, I lost my job a year ago and nobody will hire a 72 yr old woman. I live in CA where the job rate is very low.
I have 8 total CC that I'm going to try and settle with one at a time. My credit report shows that I’m very late with Chase the other 7 CC are in good standing it also show my ex husband name but I’m now divorced. Could this be why Chase says I don’t qualify for a settlement. I hear a lot of people getting the settlement but for me Chase will not budge at all, they just want me to make payments
I thought Chase charge off was 180 days my last payment was August 30, 2009
What can I do now?
Does anyone have the phone number to the settlement department, all I have is 866/965-4630 and that takes me to people that just reads what’s on my account they can not do any settlements, they only fight to get a payment. They are nice about it, I’m not getting any where.

Good Luck.

Do you have alot of recent cash advances ? Is the card fairly new? Both of these things can cause a cc company not to settle

I have had this account over 20 years and never been late plus I always paid more then the min. Last time I used this acct was 11/2008 it was a promotional check for 1,400 at 3.99%. I have gone thru all my statments from the start of this acct. and the total 17,000 is all interest over the period of 20 years. Last year they raised the rate to 7.99% on all my promotionals I had.

I think the problem is that the credit report doesn't show that you are in any distress. It appears you have just chosen to not pay them but are paying everyone else. I would think that they usually settle when they know the person is in a bankrutable position. Your credit report probably doesn't show that.

dftb, I was scratching my head on this one. But you may be onto it. I defaulted on EVERYTHING at once and I suddenly looked very bankruptable. That may well be the case here.

Anonymous, they can run a report called a lexis-nexus which shows your employment or lack thereof, as well as property you own and other debts and income can be picked up in other ways. Remember, the banks made these systems for themselves. They find out what they need to know.

Still in all, I would believe they will offer you something. Good Luck

Because they allow anonymous posts, this will continue. All we can do is ignore them. But we all know that they are full of it. They take a huge chunk of your change to do no better than each of us can do on our own. Actually, I think WE do it better!!

I'm not saying they know everything and I am not saying it is all correct. But, there is a lot of information on us out there and they do know how to find it. They certainly know how to use it to their advantage.

All my credit cards are max out, I make a payment to them then I use it to pay bills.
If I stop paying on Target it will not show up for a month or so on credit report.
Chase did ask me why I don't pay one chase acct and pay on the other chase acct, I told them if you notice after I make a payment on that acct I use it to pay bills so the amount never goes down.

I was afraid to just stop on all 8 credit cards at once, other cc are low payments except for Target
What can I do now charge off April 30th that will be a total of 210 days late.
