hi! I received a summons on a dentist bill. I have refused to pay this bill because I went to the dentist to have a tooth pulled and he decided that it shouldnt be done to save my teeth from shifting and offered to do a pulpectomy. His wife (his office manager) told me not to worry about cost, that it should be covered by my insurance. Shortly afterward, I receive a bill for $254.24. I called the office and told them that I would not pay, that they said it would be covered and I wanted the tooth to be pulled when I went in there. The bill ended up in collections. The bad debt was put in my husbands name, not mine and they added another 45% to the total (went up to 343.22) and now it's up to $726 and change for lawyer fee and filing fee. I called them to try to pay, hoping that if I paid before the court date, I could waive some of the fees, but they have told me that I have to pay the total amt of 726+ before COB 5/6/10 or be in court the next morning. I just wondered if there was anything that could be done w/the amt that I have to pay. I spoke to a lawyer and he just wanted the money to represent me, wouldnt look at the documents before I agreed to retain him. He told me to go for the court date, but I just want it over.

Unfortunately you owe it. The dentist wanted to do one procedure and you obviously let him. You could have gotten out of the chair and walked. Secondly, you or your husband signed a financial responsiblity agreement agreeing to all charges whether or not insurance covers it.
