First make sure that all of these lenders are licensed to lend in Wisconsin. Go to Wisconsin's Department of Finance website and look for their searchable database of licensed payday lenders and look up the companies. If they're not licensed, then you only owe them the principal.

This is technically incorrect. According to the state, a lender only needs a license to solicite for business via the internet. This means that if the borrower went to the lender unsolicited, the loan is valid.
Now, the reality is that an illegal lender will do nothing more than make your life hell with phone calls to you, your work and your references.
Do what Shazz asked and the "experts" will give you the correct guidance.
