I had a utility bill in another state with my boyfriend-my five children and i left in the middle of the night because he was extremely abusive. The last thing i have thought about in the two years since is an old powere bill, but here it is.I dont mind being responsable for some of it but why should i have to pay the whole thing. What do i do there were other bills in both our name

Well, if he doesn't pay the bills the responsibility would come to you, since your name is also there. You may negotiate with the collection agency to lower the amount but honestly you're responsible for the entire amount on the bill.

From what you have said about your ex-boyfriend, it seems that he cares less for his credit score. So, it wouldn't matter if those bills keep hurting his credit. But at the same time any unpaid joint bill would continue denting your score too. Hence, you might have to take the responsibility to pay off these bills. However, you're the best judge of your situation.
