question about hardship plans

if we agree to repayment under a hardship plan (paid at about 1/2 of what the current monthly payment is "supposed" to be over 60 months), what happens if circumstances change and we can no longer pay that. does the clock start again as far as the account becoming delinquent (30 days, etc) or does it go straight to something more "significant" like a charge-off or whatever?

we are in the hardship plan with most of our credit card banks,
we are in the hardship plan with most of our credit card banks, and they have all told us that if things change, to contact them and they will re-evaluate and see what they can do. so HOF is correct on each creditor is different..
