I am starting the process...help?

Today, I called all of the cc companies and notified them that I would be changing jobs and moving and that I would no longer have the same home phone number. This is not true, but I did it in an attempt to save my household from the annoying calls later. I asked them to please remove the old home number and work number. I provided them with my cell phone number and told them that as soon as I got my new numbers for work and home I would provide them to them. Do you think that they removed my phone numbers or will they still go back and try to contact me at those numbers once I start missing payments?
I also had a few accounts that were drafted automatically each month. I informed them that I needed those account drafts stopped immediately because I would be closing them before the next due date. I told them that I would mail the payments in from now on. I really do not want to close this account. Can/will they take money out of this account in the future without my permission?
I get paid on the first of each month so I am coming up on the first month that I am going to provide for my family first and ignore my cc debt. I am nervous about it. I have always been obsessive about my credit score, but I am now angry with these cc companies. Many of them reduced my credit line for no reason and caused my score to drop. I hope I am making the right choice. Wish me luck!!!
tdavis, just wanted to wish you luck. I am right there with you,
tdavis, just wanted to wish you luck. I am right there with you, only about 30-90 days ahead depending of which of 4 cards I have...
You can search for my posts and see how it is going. It is hard and I wish I had thougth of that with the pc, I basically keep my phone on silent but that is hard to do also. Like you I was obsessive before about paying way above minimum and bank draft to pay early, all that. I stopped my bank draft online.
Betted, did you talk to them during this 149 days or have any contact? Could you give some detail?
thanks, Kaylee

well if the cell is the main number they will try you there first. if you start avoiding them on your cell you can expect the house phone to be ringing as well as work. and if you by chance ignore those the skip tracing will probably begin and then your family (if any) will be called trying to track you down
just my .02 on the calls, take them but make them short and sweet. it will also help come settlement time if they see you are at least keeping in contact with them :p

blackbeast,
I am hoping since I am currently in good standing with my cc's and I called them all to notify them of new contact information that they updated their file and deleted the old contact information such as my home phone and work numbers. I plan to answer their calls, but do not want my teenage children or babysitter to have to deal with them. I am hoping for quick settlements and honestly don't mind paying a bit more to settle quickly. I would be happy with 50%. Do you think that is too high?

hope you don't have a discover card then. they skipped traced my parents phone number twice and called them. they of course didn't say anything about the account, but i then had my parents calling and asking questions!
and of course all the cards might play the "we never had such a request to remove the phone numbers" card as they can be a PITA and do whatever they want pretty much cause you owe them money.
%50 is kinda high, but if you want it said and done with and have the financial resources to pay %50, get your settle on! also keep in mind some cards might not settle (even at %50) until 120+ days of being delinquent. so first things first, stop paying on those cards!!!!
keep hangin around the forum, read and search others posts, and keep your head held high about a soon to be debt free life
**due to my circumstances, i am filing for bankruptcy. i was however going to do the settlement route until my wife and i weighed the pros and cons in case you were wondering!

TD actually my husband did this and unbelieveably it worked!!! We were always current and paid on time...credit was excellent....so he changed the phone contact to his cell when his business went under....and his cell rang like crazy, but home phone did not......only one store card called (my account) on our home phone....you have to be very thorough...which it sounds like you were!!!

I wish I had known about this before. I had severely defaulted on one of my master cards (I was probably headed into 6 months) and I didn't know you would settle. I ended up paying them the amount owed and I am still paying them today, slowly.

I took my first call today from HSBC Beneficial. I told them that I wanted to pay them, but had no money what so ever to do so and explained why. After several attempts of them trying to set up payment arrangements and me restating that I have no money to offer them. The man finally agreed to call back another time. I am sure that this will be tomorrow, but I am considering this call a success! I held my ground and surprisingly felt relieved after the call. It was good to just be honest and tell them that I could not pay it.
