Generally, when they say no "up front" fees, they mean you'll be depositing your monthly payments into an account, including your fee, which they will use to settle your accounts.
Keep in mind that, if you have the time, you can do this yourself for FREE! If you do feel you need to go with a settlement service, you need to ask the following questions:
1. How long have they been in business?
2. Is their Reliability Report with the Better Business Bureau both listed and free of unresolved complaints?
3. Do they require complete information from current statements BEFORE ever giving you a quote?
4. Did they guarantee a % of settlement? (e.g. -we will settle all of your accounts at 50% or better.)
5. Where does your money go? (do they ask YOU to save it then come see them when you have enough saved, do they hold your money for you while you are saving it up or do they set up an account, in your control, where your money will be deposited?)
6. What are their fees and how are they paid?
7. Did they ask about any B of A, Citi, or Discover accounts? (and if so, did they explain WHY they are asking?)
8. Did they review any other options with you before telling you that debt settlement is your best choice?

To Confused,
I am currently enrolled in Superior Debt's company for the past year. I was previously enrolled with Freedom Debt *** huge mistake. So far I have had amazing results. My creditors were calling pretty much 4 to 5 times a day at first. I changed my telephone number to the number Superior supplied me with and the calls stopped after about 45 days or so... this is what I know... we did our homework to be sure we were going with a reliable company... they have been in business since 1998 according to the Secretary of State. They are accredited by the BBB with a B+ rating.. no open complaints. I had to provide all of my statements when enrolled in the program. There was no fees upfront... they charged fees when they settled my accounts. We had or 1st settlement 4 months after we enrolled.. I check my account were my money goes every month and there are no fees taken out monthly. When my BOA account was settled we owed 2000 dollars because of the lack of payments they kept charging fees every month.. when we settled the account the balance was up to 2400 they settled the account for 750.00, but charged me fees on the original balance, not what the balance climed up to... I am very very happy -- I am not sure why OhioGal asked about BOA, DISCOVER and CITIBANK as I have all of those creditors and settlements have been done on my BOA and CITI accounts Discover should be next as we were able to put our income tax return into our savings account last week our rep called my husband to let us know that they are working on the Discover and Chase accounts this week... They always answer the phone and are there for any questions that we have... I do not feel that we could have ever of done this by ourselves we have a long way to go as our debt total is at 66k..... I have had to opportunity to share my experience with the AG of our state and really do feel that this was a perfect program for us... as we were speaking with BK attorneys and really didnt want to go that route... please let me know if i can help in any way...
