I've had a many different collection agencies calling me, and sending me letters though.
I'm currently unemployed. But when I do have some money again, I want to try to fix my credit as much as possible.
Should I contact my original creditors for some kind of settlement?

reallybadcreditscore, you can talk to your creditors about the charged-off accounts. Request them to update your credit report. You, can contact your original creditors, and first request them to pull back the account from the collection agencies. Only after the creditors agree to pull back the account, can you try to negotiate a supplement with your creditors.
If your original creditors agree to pull back the account, first get that agreement in writing. Before making the payments, request your creditor to agree to a "Pay for delete" (PFD) agreement. If your creditor agrees to PFD, the charge-off will be removed from your credit report. Get the settlement, and PFD agreement in writing as proof. However, not all creditors agree to a PFD.
You can use the sample PFD letter at http://www.debtconsolidationcare.com/letters/pay-for-delete.html . Change the wordings as per your requirement.

I am not sure what Chase does. However, generally most of the banks try to work out with their customers, provided you have been a good customer. People say that it is much easier to work with the original creditor while trying to remove negatives. You can at least try.
