Statute of Limitations on a debt found in collections on my credit report

I pulled my credit report from Freecreditreport.com and found some things that I havent been contacted about that are in collections, yes they are my fault and I didnt pay them from when I was younger. Well the biggest one is an apartment debt, I had to break my lease and move out due to budget constraints at the time. They sent in the amount I owed them to collections and the date its listed as opening is 12/2005. I live in Texas and if im reading this right then after 4 years I dont have to pay? Please let me know what I can do to fix this.
