Tom, pull a copy of your credit report, and check if Midland Credit Management (MCM) is listed on your credit report. If you are in any way unsure that you owe any money to this agency, send them a debt validation letter.

Debt validation helps you in getting the details on your debt, the outstanding debt amount, your original creditor, and if the collection agency has the authority to collect the debt from you. Send the the letter through certified mail, requesting a return receipt (CMRRR). Their address:

Midland Credit Management, Inc.
P.O. Box 939019
San Diego, CA 92123-9019

You will get the sample debt validation letter at http://www.debtconsolidationcare.com/letters/sample6.html .

If the debt comes back validated you will have to pay the debt. However, if MCM fails to validate the debt, first ask them to stop calling you. If they still do not comply to your request, send a 1 CMRRR. In addition complain about the agency to State Attorney General, and Federal Trade Commission. For more details on MCM refer http://www.debtconsolidationcare.com/forums/midlandcredit.html .
