Hi

I got a call a few weeks ago from Bronson and Migliaccio about an old loan bank from mid 2004. I made a few payments and then lost my job in Florida and moved back to Canada, I have been here ever since. They have now tracked me down and are looking for money, the first girl I talked to said I owed $5000 (which is pretty close) and they would settle for $2760 if I could come up with a $500 up front and then payments (she never did give an amount).

What should I do next?

If you're happy with the amount that the bank is offering, then ask the bank to give the settlement agreement in writing. You should be clear about the term of the payments and the amount you've to give in each payment. So, clearly ask them about it.
But first, take out your credit report and check the status of the account. Since the account is almost 6 years old, it might have well passed the Statute of Limitations expiry date. If it's not, then make a request to the bank to report the account as 'paid in full' instead of 'settled' in your credit report.
