UGH. I think I really screwed up. I received a call from a 'process server' on Friday. He stated that I was getting ready to be served and he could delay this if I called a number ....JD Enterprises. I called. I talked to Joe Willis. He said that I owe ATT $1200...He said that he sent me letters with an offer to settle and I could settle for $800 before this goes to court. He said that he would let me make a $1 payment with a debit card and that he would charge the card $800 on Thursday (my payday)...I had a baby crying, my mom visiting and my other child needing something...I was stressed and panicked and I agreed. He said that my last payment to ATT was in 2006. I know that is a lie. Had I been able to think clearly, I would have hung up on him...but I gave him my debit card number with intent to pay the balance (that I'm not even sure I owe)..I am now sure that the SOL was getting ready to run out and he was making a last ditch effort. Is it too late to send a debt validation letter? What should I do?

No, send the debt validation letter immediately through a certified mail. Put a hard debit block on your debit account by requesting your banker. Don't let them access to your debt account.
If the CA cannot validate the date within 30 days after receiving your letter, dispute the debt with the credit bureaus. Just wait till the SOL expires.

Thank you! I am sending the certified letter today. Does the SOL start over because I did make payment arrangements with them? I am in California. I read somewhere that states are different with regard to starting the SOL clock over.
