I was looking at my credit report from all three reporting agencies. I was denied credit (from a loan company) because of an outstanding debt on my credit report.
TranUnion (the only one it was listed on) reported that I had an account from ARS and it had not been paid on for a year or more. I do not know of such a debt...I have never received anything from this company. My question is do collection agencies (which I'm assuming this is) have to show proof of a letter or some form of contact before they place a bad account on my credit report? Why would it be on just one reporting agency and not all three?? Thank-you for you answers..

Have your credit report showing the name of ARS? If so, then let me tell you that ARS Inc. is a collection agency. I think the agency name is Associated Recovery Systems. HAs ARS contacted you for this debt?

As OhioGal has advised, send a letter to them from the contact info on your credit report and ask them to send you a collection letter. And then you can dispute the debt.
