Credit card suing a senior that only gets social security

Background: I used to be able to pay my bills. My husband was forced to retire, due to his health, and we are losing our home ... so that will give you an idea of where we are at. I am a senior citizen in California that only makes $440 a month through Social Security.
Problem: My credit card company is suing me for $3400 plus interest. Help, help, help ... court date is scheduled for December.

They can't take your Social Security. That is exempt income. Bu
They can't take your Social Security. That is exempt income. But it doesn't mean they won't try. Avoid direct deposit, and only keep a small amount of money in your checking account.
