It looks like debt settlement is the best option for me - three PDL's that I can't keep up with. The total balance is just over one thousand dollars - I've only found one firm that will deal with that small of an amount (small to them, not to me!) but their upfront fee is $256, too much for me right now. How can I find a 'good' (reputable?) firm to help me? Also, how do I find out if the 3 PDL's are legal in Oregon? Thanks so much.

United Cash Loans (borrowed $200, paid $260, still owe $200
Discount Advances (borrowed $360, paid $60, owe $495)
First Bank of Delaware (borrowed $500, paid $166, owe $403)

Help, I'm truly desperate - can't make these monthly payments any longer. If it matters, the reason I had to borrow to begin with was because of two huge vet bills; I have a few rescue animals and had two emergencies that wiped me out completely. Thank you for any advice you can give ....

Margie, UCL and Discount Advances are illegal in Oregon. You actually will get a refund of $60 from UCL and owe $300 to Discount. FBD is an installment loan and is legal (most probably). They gave me a payment plan. You have to ask for it.

But first, close your checking account to save it from the illegal lenders.

Thank you! This is the first encouraging news I've had in weeks! OK, on Monday I'll close my checking account - although I have an automatic deposit scheduled for the end of the month, the same day that two payments are scheduled to be withdrawn - that I tried to change or cancel and was unable to (my social security check). Guess I'll just have to wait to get it next month, yikes!

Is it really possible to get a refund for overpayment from UCL? How do I do that? Actually, I've had a loan with them (and Discount Advantages) previously, both were paid off. I'll contact FBDL to see about a payment plan ... thanks again!
