I received a letter from the northland group, to settle a citi card amazon account....amount owe, 1000. settle for $500....this account was $649 last yr in nov, 09, when i lost my job for a year....`now i am working but the late feels and etc now has it at $1000.....i feel like telling them i have been without a job since nov. 09, and want to settle at 50% of the $649....any suggestions

The account might have been at $649 but with late fees and interest your balance is now higher.....Citi wont go back to what it was. You can tell them you were unemployed but it wont change it. You can try for bigger settlement but with a small balance account, nobody is going to work it that hard.

Hi Ron,
just to let you know that I did settle several citi cards for about 1/3 of the amount owed....and they were fairly high balances. Some here have said that they are more willing to settle if you owe large balances...I would press for 1/3 of the $6,000 amount....what do you have to lose. I must let you know that you need to be ready to not pay anything for 120 days.....the more time goes by ...the better the settlement. I was going to file BK and that is why I waited to settle.....but let them know your situation and tell them that all you have is $350....for settlement.....it sounds like that is all you have anyway.....I was always truthful with them....I was broke!
