I am about $23000 in debt. (2 citi credit cards) I am making all payments on time but will not be able to continue as I was diagnosed with cancer in July. My only income is my social security check. My savings are about gone. I hope (not certain) to be in remission in March and resume making money but I'll be broke before then. What do you suggest I do?

Given that your only source of income is social security, if I were in your shoes I would stop paying them. You need to put that money aside should you need some kind of medical services in the future that medicare/medicaid won't cover. I applaud you for keeping up with your payments under these circumstances, but now you have to put yourself first.

We've all been in the situation where we've run up our credit cards for whatever reason with the intention of paying back, but then life smacks you in the face.

Another alternative would be to see a bankruptcy attorney, one who does not charge for the first consultation. This way once the debts were discharged you won't have to deal with the creditors.
