I live in MD and I have 5 payday loans. I am trying to get rid of them. I don't know if they are illegal in the state of Maryland. They are all INTERNET loans.

Manhattan Processing
Sandpoint Capitol
Cashnetusa
Cashplus
CMG Group

I have had most of these loans for the past 4 months. I only pay the finance charge and with me paying that I have paid these loans off probably twice over, it is eating me up and taking my whole paycheck and leaving me with no money to pay my every month bills. Now I completely understand that I was the one that signed up for these loans and I am fully determined to pay them back.

I was also wondering how I can go about getting rid of these loans. I have decided to close my bank account and stop my direct deposit but I read that it was not good to open a different account at the same bank! Is that true??? I like my bank and don't really want to bank anywhere else. But if I must then I will.

I found the letter template and will send the letter once I confirm that they are illegal, how can I go about getting my State Attorney General Info, other than using google? I want to make sure that I am taking the right steps in getting this matter solved as quick as possible.

How do I also find out if these PDL internet lenders have a license? Is there a website to go too? How can I find out if they have a license in MD?

If there is anything else that I need to do please, anyone and any help would be greatly appreciated.

You must be having a bad day.  We do highly recommend that the loans be paid back but only the original amount borrowed,  nothing more, nothing less.  What is the old saying, "it takes one to call one"?.  Get a life!

Out of all the PDL lenders that you have, only Cashnet USA is legal in Maryland. They are not a payday loan lender but a CSO. You can contact them and try to get a payment arrangement.

All other PDL lenders are illegal in your state. You are only morally responsible to pay them the actual amount borrowed. Close your bank account ASAP and file complaints against the illegal lenders with your states' AG, the BBB and the Maryland Commissioner of Financial Regulation.

Quote:

Isn't the CSOs another way to harass people? By not regulating their fees, the Govt. is only increasing the pressure on consumers. If they are not regulated by state's laws, then aren't there any regulator for these CSOs?

Just another reason this country is in such a rut. CSO's are only required to register with the secretary of state.

I advise anyone to never use Manhattan Processing, they are a rip off. I had a loan, talked everything over with the representative Ashley and when I finally sat down and looked at the paperwork they sent me, it had the wrong date on the paperwork that I was suppose to pay my loan back. I called them and they told me I had to go with whats on my paperwork after we came to a agreement over the phone on the date. I have bills, I have payments taken directly out of my bank account. I told her there is no way I would have agreed to that date, my car note and insurance are taken out on they date every month. I told them to take the money right then and there and I wouldn't referr them to anyone. Well that was a few months ago, I just called them and wanted to get a couple of hundred until next week and they told me they couldn't loan to me because I called in hateful and said I would never use them again.......REALLY!!!!! That was God intervening because I really didn't need to deal with a so called company like Manhattan Processing......they are definitely a rip off..... my annual percentage rate was 782.14%.....what really was I thinking!!!!!

At no time should you admit to any debt that you are not sure you have. At no time should you admit that you have any debt at all. If a company purchases your debt, the debt will show on your credit report and you should receive paperwork that states that your debt has been sold to (name of the new company) and then they have to prove they own it. If they are calling you regularly and beyond 8 PM start a log and record every call on a log sheet. When you can establish a trail of harrassment you will then have the ability to contact a lawyer and file harrassment charges, send the communications to the Officer of the Attorney General of your state and then make sure that you add your name to the do not call list.

The next time they call you, tell them to stop calling you and that you do not believe the debt is yours. End the call and begin a log from that date with the time, date, who you spoke with and how long the call lasted. Also try to log what was said in the conversation. This will pay off in the long run because the fine for harrassment in this form can be as much as $2000 payment to you and a hefty fine on the company.

This country is in a rut because ppl like you cant learn to live within their means. I think you should pay the full balances of what you owe to teach you a lesson. Whether the loans are legal or not you should have looked all that up before you took out the loan. your own fault now pay it back scumbag.
