Hi all, I'm new to this site. Sorry this is kind of long. Here is my deal I have about 30,000, in credit card debt Between my Discover, Chase, citibank and hsbc I have had everything set to autopay for the last few years. so I would never forget payment. I owe citibank 7200. Will a few months ago I received my statement in the mail, and it said I still owed them like 3.00. So I called them and paid the 3.00 that I was short, I then asked them to take more out of my checking so this would not happen again, They transferred me to a different department, and they said that I should raise it to take out 120 every month so that does not happen again. So I do that. I maybe put 100 dollars on that card that month, and thought everything was taken care of. So I check my account online and again it still did not take everything out, so I had to call them again to take care of it. I have been a custumer with them for 8 years always paid on time. My interest rate went from 8.99 to 28.99. Which is outrageous to me. I called them twice to see if I can get my interest rate back to where it was or at least lower then the 28.99, they said no, I was very civil with them, they told me the only way I could get it lowered is make my payments on time for a year and call them back. So I have the statement here and on the back it says I owe 325.65 with the 28.99 interest, And my prior purch I owe 6800 with the 8.99. So my question is this Do I only pay that high of interest on the 325.00, or can they raise the rate to 28.99 on everything I owe.

thanks for your time

Chris

Paul is correct! Your previous balance of $6800.00 would be under the old interest rate. I would get all of your documentation together and talk to someone higher up to see if you can get your interest rate lowered on the new balance because they didn't go their job. It is worth a try.

I don't really have any documents all I have is the statements. I called them twice last week and emailed them twice, I got the same answer from all of them. That they could not lower the interest until I paid 12 months on time. Not to worried about it now, I just won't use the card anymore, I'm just glad that they can't raise the rate on my old debt. I owe under 300 now with that high interest rate. thanks alot guys I feel alot better now
