:) Just wanted to let you all know that we are credit card free. We had had credit scores of about 752 but decided we couldn't play the game anymore. We stopped paying the cc companies and settled about $70,000.00 worth of debt for about a third of that overall. We used this forum to find answers, advice, ask question and gain knowledge. You can do this.

We did get sued but settled with the company so never had to appear. We have been credit card free for about 2 years now and our credit score has recovered to 749, the last time I checked.

Credit card free = stress free! We pay cash for what we want, save for what we don't have the money for. YOU CAN DO THIS.

By the end of March 2011 I, too, will be credit care free. I've settled with Citibank, 2 Bank of America accounts, HSBC, Discover and Chase. Last one to settle (I hope) is Capital One which was just charged off. (No more calls from Linda!).

Paid off my PDLs last year. I paid cash for all christmas shopping and pay cash for anything I buy.

It feels GREAT to have a couple bucks in my pocket instead of living paycheck to paycheck.

All this was done without using a debt settlement/consolidation company. I'm sure I've saved lots of $$$ doing it myself, with the help of this website.

Good luck everyone and have a great Holiday Season.

Hi Lisawilliamson! Let me guess. None of your creditors was Cap One or Discover. By what I've read on this forum about these two banks, I would be very surprised if any one of them settled with you for less than 50%. Which creditors allowed you to get away with settling on only one third of your balance?:o

Rozo,
We did not have any Cap One cards but we did have one Discover. I had talked to them on the phone and they agreed to settle for 40%. I waited for the letter to come by fax, got my check together and mailed it. The DAY AFTER I mailed it, I got a letter from them offering me a 25% settlement! I called them and told them the chain of events and let them know that I would be stopping payment on the first check and taking the 25% offer. The person I was speaking to had to clear it with a supervisor but they did let me do it.

The worst that we dealt with was Chase. We had three cards with them; they bundled two of them on a 50% settlement but would NOT include the third card and played hardball on it. We did finally settle it at 50% but it was a difficult one. I think their customer service sucks anyway; we've had more problems with them than just credit cards. They are just dumb.

Our easiest was BofA.

Wow!
To settle with discover-my money for 25% is outstanding.

The snake, aka boa was also my easiest.

Funny thing about chase-me down is that they were very easy (for me) to settle with.
Only took a couple of calls to kill'em, but then the moon must have been in the correct phase.

Great job!
