I am in a remaining debt of $15K+. I am looking to pay this off as we speak. However, i have NO idea who to TRUST or who even HOLDS this debt. The debt i am trying to pay off, once was defaulted on for a year.

I am now back and ready to pay it off, however - i have multiple companies calling on the debt to collect the whole amount. They keeping saying "we will take 8K to pay it off if you pay now".

I DO want to pay it off, but now I am in the position that I do not even know WHO to trust or who i am actually suppose to pay.

Is there anyway of me finding out who is the actual person is responsible for collecting my debt? I call the original company who loaned me the money, and they said that a collection agency now holds it. However, I have different agencies calling me.

How do I go about fixing this?

You can give a call back to your original creditor and ask them to let you know the name of the collection agency. Also, you can check out your credit report in order to find out who holds the account. You've mentioned that multiple collection agencies are calling you for the same debt. You should send debt validation letter to each of them and validate the debt. The debt collection agency which validates your debt is the owner of your account. You should contact them and set up a payment plan and pay off the amount you owe them.
