Collection Agency asking for financial information

Is this common practice? I do not feel comfortable giving this information to them, they said that they need it to justify my settlement to my original creditor. If that's the case, can't I just try to settle through my original creditor? (T-Mobile)

You do not have to give them any information at all unless they call you for a legal depostion. That would only happen after a judgement. Do not tell them anything. They will use it against you.
Tell them you are willing to pay X and let them comeback with a counter offer.
