In 2008 I got behind in payments to Discover, and several other credit cards as well. I joined a program that lowered the interest to a reasonable 7.99 %. I paid on this account for a year, not missing any payments and the balance was going down and out of the blue.. they jacked the interest to 28.99%.

I called the compay and told them I thought I was in a program, and that is when I was told the program was for only a year and there was nothing they could do for me.

Needless to say, I got behind again, and they have been trying to convince me, that they are wanting to help me again. Now they say I can't be in another program, but if I pay the outstanding past due, they will credit my account monthly on the excess interest charged monthly over the 7.99%.

They want my account number and routing number to withdrawn their payment every month automatically. I DO NOT TRUST THEM AGAIN!!

They say they will "charge off" the balance @ the end of the month if I don't agree to their offer.

Would it be out of line to ask for a letter in writing stating the agreement?

Thanks for any advice.

First off, do nothing with them until you get it in wriitng. They offered me that 7.99% program first but I kept telling them that I couldn't afford it so they knocked off about 25% of the bill and letme pay the rest over 5 years at 0.9% interest.

Keep pushing for it and keep telling them that you can't afford anything else and they may be open to changing your program.
