Are the collectors in the obligation to contact me by writing after contact me by phone, or simply they only need to do by phone?

I talked with them, an I denied the debt, but they never asked for my address. Can they sue me ,without first send me a notice by mail?

Thanks

Hi!
Welcome to the forums,

The collection agencies are need to send you a debt validation letter after 5 days of initial communication. In case they haven't send you any notice, then you can ask them in writing to send you a debt validation letter. If they don't give a reply, then send a Cease and Desist letter via certified mail. They won't be able to contact you again.

The collection agency can only sue in the following circumstances:
You owe the debt and have defaulted on it.
The debt has crossed the SOL period in your state

If you don't owe any debt, then they won't be able to sue you.

Huh?? Collection agencies file suit all the time when debts are out of SOL. It is up to the debtor to to respond with the defense that the debt is out of SOL. And people are sued frequently for debts that may or may not be theirs. Plus you do not have to be defaulted....they can sue you when you are one payment late.
