I am a Canadian citizen, born and raised, and never lived in the StAtes. I bought groceries through an online grocery delivery company (which is American company) for my boyfriend who lives in the States.
I used my Canadian credit card to make the purchases. It's a joint account with my father and he didn't realize it was me making the purchases and disputed it with the credit card company. I guess the credit card company contacted the grocery company and requested tje money be returned. The grocery company called me one time and asked me for ID or asked for proof that I was the card
Holder. I never provided any proof. Stupid me but I forgot. Now a few months later a US collections company called me saying I need topay 900 dollars.. I heard from some people that US based collection agencies can not collect from Canadians because the laws are different etc. what would happen if I did not pay it? Also could they go adter my boyfriend even though the debt is under my name? Thanks in advance

Thanks.. Guess what I was reading around these forums I thought otherwise

You heard wrong. There are many US collection agencies that have Canadian divisions that do their Canadian collections. Plus there is an agreement between Canada and us for the domestication of US judgments in Canada.

PS....I am Canadian....
