Wage Garnishment

I've been trying to read all I can but there are so many posts. I have had my wages and tax refunds garnished for about two years now and although it was hard, I did it (about $24,000 worth). However I still owe about $40,000 and have to save up for a new vehicle and really can't afford the amount they are garnishing out of my paychecks anymore and still be able to live and save up for a new vehicle. I called Texas Guaranteed Student Loan and they just told me that they can't do anything about decreasing the monthly amount. Is there really nothing that can be done? I did go on the website and noticed that I can request a hearing but I don't know how successful anyone is with that. Can anyone help with suggestions/advice? Thanks in advance.

In order to have the garnishment stopped or lowered, you would have to show hardship. Saving for a new vehicle would not fall under hardship. You would have to show you cannot meet daily basic expenses with the garnishment.
