I received a letter addressed to my son, at MY home address. My son has never lived at this address. How do they get this information. The letter is an offer to settle at a discount....the outstanding amount is about $4000, they are offering to "Settle" for $99. I know that a lawsuit was filed and a judgement issued for the $4000. What will happen to the judgement if a payment of $99 is made. They say that they will issue a 0 balance on the credit card (but the bank is no longer in existance)

Couple things.

1. Why are you opening mail that isn't addressed to you?
2. $99 to settle $4K sounds like one of many scams to me.

Who's the letter from? If your son already has a judgment against him, generally, he would reach out to the creditor or collector who has the judgment to work out a settlement arrangement.
