Yes they can. They will sell your account to a third party collection agency and they will contact you to try and settle with them for the full amount or even less. I've had one of my accounts to be in charge off with Capital One and they are settling for half of what I owe. I told them the truth that I've got no money and I'll send them what I can. You need to make sure you get documents to keep for your records. Some of them will try and screw you over. Keep records of everything. I had one account I owed $11,000 and they settled for $2,000. I tried to do the best and if they don't like it, so what. Settle for as less as you can get them to go. Don't let them make a fool of you, stand your ground and don't let your guards down. I lost my job and now I made all of this mess. Now I'm having to clean all of my debt up and I'm settling on my last one. Good luck and let us know how it comes out.
