My son has four credit card debts totalling about $17K. He has written the credit card companies individually, but they really have not offered much help.
What is the best strategy for getting the credit card co's to write off some of the outstanding balance?

You havent given us enough info to go on. Is he looking for a settlement? Is he behind in his cards? In collections?? They are not going to settle unless he is at least 90 days past due. Also as a general rule, they go not respond to letters...they will not negotiate thru the mail. He needs to call.
Why is he not posting here asking these questions??
