Can I get answers from original creditor?

I am new to these issues and need a question answered. I received a letter from Weltman, Weinberg & Reis, CO., L.P.A., who is apparently representing a company I had a credit card with. On the letter it indicates that Harvest Strategy Group, INC., was also involved at some point. I think the original creditor was HSBC/BEST BUY. They (WW&R) state they area debt collector company attempting to collect this debt for their client. I was not even aware of this debit until I pulled my credit report after receiving the letter from them. I never received any monthly bills/ statements from Best Buy. The amount was $2,262 when it was listed as a charge off in Jan. 2009. It is listed as "purchased by another lender" on my credit report. My question is which lender? It looks to me like it has been "bought" a couple of times. I know I did not make these charges. I am unsure if one of my sons did or not. My question is can I call the original lender and request any past statements or clarification on the charges or are they just going to tell me that it is no longer in their " system"? I have sent a DV letter to WW &R today via certified mail. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

If you never opened a best buy account, you definately need to tell them that this is possibly identity theft and that you need a copy of your contract. You may also want to go to your local police department and file an identy theft case. You might wanna talk to your sons...
