I've read all of what is posted here, and I have a very similar situation. They have called and threatened that if I did not pay $820 by 8am the next morning via money gram, then they would have me arrested. I noticed others here who had that same threat made against them. I'm wondering whatever happened? My family advised me that it didn't sound right, and to call the bluff, but now I am still hanging in limbo, unable to find an address to mail the payment, unable to obtain a copy of the original loan document, when I call the numbers listed in this forum, I only get a voice mail but never a return phone call, and I'm still worried that the police will arrive any moment. I just want to pay this off and be done with it, but see no no end in sight. The lawyer I saw basically said there is nothing I can do unless they come after me. I don't want it to get that far. What is the next step?

Cal SJM Marketing at 1-866-722-2770 and inquire about the status of your loan account. Request them to give you more info for making the payment arrangements.

United Federal Bank may have been hired for collecting this debt. They are a collection agency who is bound to follow the fdcpa laws. You need to make sure whether they hold your debt accounts or not. Posing threats are against the FDCPA laws. You can sue them for such violations. Know your legal rights mentioned in the FDCPA8.

You can't be sent to jail for not paying the debt. It's just a word in the form of threat. If they are making a false collection, you can sue them on legal grounds. Get the debt validated in writing from the collection agency. They must put the information about the company for which they are collecting. Besides, the principal amount and the interest rates must also be clearly mentioned before you make a payment agreement. Do not send your money until you are sure about the company.

Read the discussion on United Federal Bank and know their business conduct. You will get some ideas on how to shape your dealings with them.

rcmd,

Just me hit the nail on the head with this one. I would keep everything documented when dealing with either company. Also, check the laws in your state regarding payday loans. Said threats in some states are illegal in themselves. Feel free to register with the forum, it's fast and free. This forum has been very helpful to me over the last six months. :)

Thanks Justme, I think SJM and United Federal Bank are the same entity. I did call that number you have listed, and only got a voice mail, so I left messages, and no one will call me back. I don't like this hanging out there like that, and just want to resolve it. But the collection agency people just yell at me and then hang up on me, and I can't get through to anyone at sjm. I just don't know how I can end this nightmare.

Like Avenger said above, keep everything documented for proof. Your letters sent to the company will describe the actions taken to resolve the matter. The collection agencies are bound to follow the federal laws by providing validation. Send a debt validation letter so that you can prove your first step taken to resolve the matter.

I understand you are unable to reach SJM Marketing at this time. Make yourself in a strong side by sending mails, faxes or even letters by certified mail. These letters will prove your responsibility in the first place and that the company failed to respond you in the required time.

I sent United Federal a very long, nasty letter. I had to fax it because there was no street address. I also called Fl.Dept. of Prof. Reg. and they have no licensing information on these guys. I was told they absolutely HAVE to have a CCA license to collect.
They're full of baloney.
They threatened to arrest me a few days ago...I just laughed at them!

I have tried finding a contact for all of these places & I can not find anything. Ambassador ended up being Nationwide Cash and when I tried getting my balance & stating this loan should have been paid months ago because $50 was suppose to be deducted starting on the 5th payment - I was informed "No that is only new loans" When I asked for a copy of the loan agreement I signed I was told "I should have kept a copy and he would take legal action" and hung up the call also I stated he did not have time for reading emails and to settle the debt. They hince sent through 10 transactions to my bank for "the past due" not the amount due as I was not provided with this the only information that was given was $50 went toward the amount due every 5th pay! I don't remember that at all I remember $50 starting with the 5th. I can't find Access and I couldn't find Ambassador or SJM Marketing before reading this.
