Once a credtior turns a debt for collection by a debt collector, Can he contact the consumer for payment while the consumer and debt collector are in communications to settle the case? In my case the credtior new bill is lower then what the debt collector is asking. Can I terminate contact with the debt collector and deal with consumer?

Hi Daniel
Welcome to debt consolidation care forums

After your accounts are charged off the creditor will either transfer your accounts to a collection agency or he may sell off the account to them. If the accounts are transferred to the collection agency then the creditors are still the owner of your accounts. In that case the creditor may contact you even if the accounts are transferred to the collection agency and communication is going between you and the collection agency.

If the creditor's new bill is less than what the collection agency is demanding from you then you should report it to the creditor immediately. You should also find out the difference between the creditors bill and the amount demanded by the collection agency. Then you should ask the collection agency about this extra amount and the reason they are demanding it. If the reason they are citing is unjustified then you may lodge a complain in FTC against this collection agency

Hope to hear from you soon

Regards
Peter
