Hi Kathy2 Welcome to the forums. If you put a stop payment
Hi Kathy2
Welcome to the forums.
If you put a stop payment on your check or close your checking account, the lenders will place a call to you for not getting the money. I will suggest you to place them a call instead. Because, this spares a thought that you are still feeling the responsibility to pay off the debt and shows how much you are concerned.
If they call you up, it means that they have already built a bad impression for you and now they will force every action against you to pay off the debt.
After putting a stop payment or closing the checking account, call them up and set up a payment plan. Advance them some money also if they don't accept the plan after a lot of negotiations.
I am assuming that lenders are interested in getting their money back and will work with you if you are willing to co-operate with them.

How to approach the lenders?
What are the things to be kept straight while dealing with the lenders. They are not willing to work on the payment plans. How should they be approached. Any suggestions?

Hi Juliet
Welcome to the forums.
There is a very good topic in the thread below in which one of our guests was asking about any federal protection offered to the consumers. Please look at the thread attached below:

I will recommend you to approach your lenders with a fixed mind. Show your consciousness to pay the debt because this sense actually proves your responsibility. Stick to the plan you offer otherwise you will lose all your chances for any benefits in the future. Lenders are also trying to get their money back so they don't have any reasons for not to work with you.
I hope that you will feel confident with your lenders after reading my suggestion.
