Stopped paying the collection agency in the middle of plan

In the past this same man has cursed me, so my back was already up.. (in the past he had told me to try to borrow from my family, my ex, accused my fiance's son of being my husband, accused me of lying about being married).. Anyway, he threatened me with a lawsuit, I told him, bring it on!!! He yelled some more things at me, I told him, you know what... F*** OFF!! 30 seconds later the phone rings, same guy CA, called me a belligerent **** I told him, you want your money sue me!!! then he hangs up, since that has happened I have had 12 hangup calls.
BTW, I have had NO correspondence from these people, only phone calls, when I called the 800 number to talk to a supervisor, she told me the reason for no letters was they had all been returned to sender thats why they called my employer, if you can find my phone number you can find my address, the OC had it..So basically the debt was never validated and since this is my one and only unpaid debt I didnt know to ask.
LOng story short, I mailed them a letter to cease and desist, so the phone harassement would end, but in a fit of anger I also went to the bank and stopped payment on the next 2 payment agreements. Figured I was not going to pay anyone that called my house and called me names.
Honest answer here, did I really screw myself for stopping payment??? I am afraid now that once they get the letter to cease and desist and the stop payment they will start to really harass me..

By law they are not allowed to call you at work if you indicate
By law they are not allowed to call you at work if you indicate to them that it threatens your job. They are also not allowed to make harassing phone calls. Interestingly enough, at least in my state, using profanity (on their part) is also illegal. Don't get too worried about this. They will use any intimidation tactic they can to get you to pay in full. If you can't do it, you can't do it. They should be satisfied with the payment you are making. Stopping payment was, perhaps, not the smartest thing you could have done, but I doubt it has "screwed" you. Call the CA and speak to a supervisor. Explain what happened, tell them you want a payment agreement in writing, and tell them that you will sue the company if the harassment doesn't stop.
Stopping payments to your collectors won't do any good to your a
Stopping payments to your collectors won't do any good to your accounts because it will add up with all the interest charges and other fees in a period of time. I must also say that you have your rights as a consumer protected under the federal laws. No collector should make threats or use profane language while attempting collections. This is a violation under the laws and you can file a case against him. Do not let your account hurt for this reason. Talk to the supervisor of the collection agency and put a complaint against this collector. You should also send a copy to your local AG's office.
