So, today I got a call from DCS at my business: they are trying to track down debt from an old owner of a similar business at that address. They claim my business is liable for it. I explained that we purchased the ASSETS only from the IRS. The IRS was seizing the business and we negotiated to buy the ASSETS ONLY, not the business. We have a separate FEIN, two owners who have nothing to do with the prior owner, and even have a different name to the business.

They said I have to fax them a copy of the Bill of Sale or else I am liable for the debt and the will come after me. I told them there was no way I was going to send my private business documents to them and that they have no right to ask for it. The woman (Paige Pacheco) continued to argue with me and then put me on hold and transferred me to a supervisor who began to berate me. She told me they would "do all available in their power" to come after me for the debt and if I "wanted to help myself I should just send them the Bill of Sale." I told her there was no way I was letting some collection company get a hold of my business information. She began saying over and over if I wouldn't help myself then they would do what they had to do, then she hung up on me. Now they won't answer the number that they gave me to call back on.

So, my question is, what should I expect next from them and should I get a lawyer to start proceedings against them?
