I am currently a student I just went back to school a year ago. When school loans and trying to make ends meet I have had to rely on a credit card. Before then I was in a longterm relationship that also brought debt along with it. I am just looking for the most efficeient way to get down and be able to live.

Hi meblariqs and welcome to the site. It sounds like you are very aware of your situation and caught anything bad from happening before it may happen, congrats on that. If you would like please list what state you are from and the credit cards that may give you a problem and the amounts. If you would like to go deeper into this evaluation, please click on the "free consultation" button that is just to the right of this post. Thanks again, you are in good hands now.

Morning meblairings. Please use this site as often as you can for it has valuable tools to help you in your situation. You said 'card' single card you're using? that is very smart as most college students, including myself, had multiple cards then they can't pay when the times comes or they lose their ability to pay in the future. unfortunately, our institutions don't teach us how to be credit savvy :( (at least most don't)
If you are still current on your credit card and doing the best you can to pay when you can, call the company and see if they can't lower your interest rate and also lower payments. While this may not 'put a dent' into your principal right away, you wills till be current and that is very vital to your credit standing. I had to do this out of desperation and I was PLEASANTLY surprised to see that my 5 cards worked with me, including the cards that were for stores, like Walmart and Sears. Unfortunately I had to go into credit counseling and while it was a huge relief they were not able to take all of my accounts in, such as Sears, though Walmart agreed to their terms.
If you only have one card try calling the company and making payment arrangements. hopefully you will find that you will have lower payments per month and if you get more funds to pay more than the lowered amount please do that. Like Luke said, sounds like you're nipping this situation before it gets worse for you. good luck, please keep us posted. This is a really great site for you to look into!
