Consolidating from Sallie Mae to Direct Loan Services

I have a consolidation loan with Sallie Mae, and it is two separate loans (I believe), listed as one consolidated FFELP subsidized loan and one consolidated FFELP unsubsidized loan.
Do I have to be with Direct Loan Services in order to get the in the new 10-year loan forgiveness program for those in public service jobs? The loans are government backed with Sallie Mae.
Also, does anyone know of any reason NOT to consolidate the two loans into one loan with Direct Loan Services?
