9-month rehab over...still getting garnished.

Looking for some help here...

Original student loan was through AES. I defaulted, and DCS came after me. I was also garnished 15%. I've been in a rehab program for a little over 9 months, paying an additional amount on top of the 15% garnishment, which I do know is part of the rehab program.

1 week ago, I received a letter from DCS stating that my loan was given back to AES and that all negative lines on my credit report...my loan rehab was completed. Yet, I am still being garnished.

Any reason for this? I haven't been able to call AES yet, but I assume I will need to set up a different payment plan with them, correct? Would they be the ones to lift the wage garnishment or would DCS do that?

Thanks in advance for any insight!

What was the amount due on the account when the garnishment was started? It's my understanding that until the balance is satisfied the garnishment will remain in place.

You may call AES and check. It is possible that since you have since established a good payment history with the additional payments they will remove the garnishment and allow you to simply make the payments.

However, I don't believe they are legally obligated to do this.
