MY son has approximately $20,000 in private students loans which were defaulted on. I have co-signed for those loans and have recently filed chapter 7 bankruptcy. He needs to consolidate the loans and remove me as a co-signer. No one will help him. He is in the Air Force and could be discharged to his credit. Is there anyone who can help him?

Bankruptcy does not remove your responsiblity from the loan.

Unfortunately there is no company that will consolidate defaulted private loans. It is difficult to get a private student loan consolidation with good credit and a cosignor.

Both of you will need to work hard to get these paid off quickly before they sue both of you.
