6 yrs ago I co-signed for my nephew to go to school, the loans are with Sallie Mae. Upon graduation he was out of school for a year before finding work. He didn't bother to keep them informed of his status or try and consolidate the 2 loans. They are now in default and they are coming after me quite aggressively. Even though he is working can they sieze my va benefits, social security, and bank account?

As this is a private loan, they cannot touch your social security or VA benefits. They can still sued you and your nephew and lein any assets you have.
