I just started getting my wages garnished (for a collective $360/mo), and recently received forms for a Direct Loan Consolidation. Is it still worth it to fill it out and send it in or will that do nothing now that they have already garnished my wages?

Will I have to offer to pay more then the $360/mo? I'm the only one working for my family so will they take into consideration my other financial obligations?

I understand I have to make a reasonable payment depending on the amount of the loan (25k) but $360 a month is too great for me to pay.

In any case, any help would be appreciated.

They should be taking 15% of your disposable wages.....your wages after involuntary deductions and healthcare...taxes, fca, social security, but not including 401k, and other deductions you opt for.

You had the opportunity to object to the ganishment ...a 30 day notice was sent to you prior to the garnishment starting.

Your employer is doing the calculations...talk to them .

As for the Direct Loan Consolidation, you must be in voluntary repayment when you apply. Garnishment is not voluntary.

So if my employer forces me to pay for employee life insurance and there is no opting out for a 401k then that is not included, correct?

I'm not under a 401k retirement plan but a state retirement plan that is also mandated. Is this not taken into consideration even if it was not an option for me?

Also, what about union dues? They are forced regardless if you want to pay them or not..
