I have been getting calls from this Leo Kane guy about $2070.00 I owe a college because I dropped out of a semester. He wants 150.00 a month, and he said he needs it THIS month or he will pass on my debt to another company that will garnish my wages. I told him I do not have the 150.00 at the moment, but could give him 60.00 right now. He wont take it. Also my wages are already being garnished due to a defaulted student loan. Is there a way to get out of this garnishment and get back onto a set payment plan? If anyone has any sort of help I would appreciate as I have to call this guy back tomorrow morning.

Hi larrywell
All the creditors together can collect a maximum of 25% of your wage through garnishment. If the garnishment on the existing student's loan has exceeded this limit, the new creditor cannot garnish your wage till the existing judgment money for which your wage is under garnishment, is paid in full. You can also file bankruptcy, but it will damage your credit score.

The amount that the CA was after was a tuition debt from school. I talked to him, told him I did not have the 150 for this month to start payment, but had 60, and could continue doing 150 starting next(this month). He he said he needs 150 or he would toss me to another collection agency. I was on lunch today at work and somebody told me a man called for me, wouldnt leave a name or number. Also my big debt 3600, that is a student loan that went default and has began to garnish my wages, which didnt make it impossible to live now, but it is really tough to do so. Also my tuition loan, that the CA is after told me they can start garnishing my wages. So does the 15% max apply to one collection agency, or is it 15%, no matter how many are garnishing. Sorry, i am new
