Civil Judgement
Date: Mon, 06/20/2011 - 06:59
Hi,
I have been served with a civil summons to have a judgement filed against me for a debt that I owe. I do not have the monies to pay off this debt due to my income being reduced back in 2009 by 30 % for over 6 months. I got behind at this time and the interest and late fees kept coming. I tried to work with the company (Discover) and paid a lump sum of $300 and 3 monthly payments to try and get caught up but by the time I had done this, I had not made any progress with the fees and interest. What will happen now that they have filed a judgement against me other than just ruin my credit. It has been a month and a half since I received the summons. I am really dumb founded when it comes to this stuff. Do you have any suggestions? Thank You

Let me see if I understand this correctly. You received a summ
Let me see if I understand this correctly.
You received a summons 6 weeks ago and you didn't respond to it or show up on the court date?
Is that correct?
And, because of that, they've obtained a default judgment against you?
If this is the case, you're pretty much screwed. They'll garnish your wages (depending on the state you live in) and/or levy your bank account to get what's owed to them.
If I've interpreted your post correctly, I suggest you call these people right away and work out some kind of payment arrangement.
