Debt Settlement with Amex

I just settled my debt with American Express through a CA for 35 cents to a dollar and they agreed a payment plan of three months. I told them that I will sent them a money order but they refused instead they said they will take it out from my checking account. Is it safe to do this?

One of my relatives also went for a settlement, not with AMEX, but with Chase. They also took the money from his checking account, but would give out a pre debit notification upon withdrawal, I presume it is safe. Hope this helps
