My mother is losing her sleep due to debt collection calls

A debt collector from Phenix city was calling my mother every other day. My mother is 85 years old. Moreover, she lives alone. She was simply getting irritated with the calls. She told the debt collectors to not call her again in future. The debt collectors didn't call her for a month. However, they have started calling her yet again. My mother is totally frustrated. What can she do now? She is losing her sleep.
You cannot just tell a debt
You cannot just tell a debt collector to stop calling. It MUST be done in writing...I recommend sending it via certified mail return receipt requested.
She owes a debt...right? Cease and desisting them breaks the line of communication and could cause her to be sued.
